 PUMPKIN SCONES

Ingredients: 

• 1/2 cup regular milk 
• 2 cups flour (whole wheat best) 
• 1 tablespoon baking powder 
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 3 tablespoons melted butter 
• 1/4 cup sugar 
• 3/4 teaspoon salt 
• 3/4 cup canned pumpkin 
• 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup 
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda 
• 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 

Instructions: 

1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Lightly oil a baking sheet and set it aside. 

2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices in a large bowl, then set aside. 

3. Combine pumpkin, milk, butter, and maple syrup in a medium bowl and stir until smooth. 

4. Combine the flour and pumpkin mixtures. Stir just until the mixture holds together. Avoid overmixing, or the biscuits will be tough. 

5. Pat into a circle about 1 inch thick on a floured board and cut into 12 wedges, like scones. 

6. Bake in the center of the preheated oven for 14 minutes, until tops are golden brown. Serve hot.
