 Calico Beans

Ingredients:

• 4 slices thick-cut bacon

• 1 lb ground beef

• 1 medium onion diced

• 1⁄4 cup granulated sugar

• 1⁄4 c molasses

• 2 tsp white vinegar

• 1 tbsp prepared mustard

• 1 tsp salt

• 1⁄2 c ketchup

• 16 oz pork and beans

• 1 can of kidney beans, drained

• 1 can cannellini beans, drained

Instructions:

1. Cook bacon until crispy. Let cool and chop into bite-sized pieces

2. Fry ground beef and onion until cooked and onions are translucent. Drain fat.

3. Combine bacon, ground beef, onion, and all remaining ingredients in a

crock pot or baking dish.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or in a crock pot for 3-4 hours.

Notes from Joyce: One recipe called for butter and lima beans, which I could not find in the store, so you know this is an old recipe! With canned beans, you can easily substitute. When doubling the recipe, keep the ground beef at 1 lb and double the rest of the ingredients. I had two different recipes I was comparing. One did not call for molasses. The next time I made it, I used the molasses, which was much better.
